Glass bottles and jars now collected with other recyclables at Recycling and Garbage Facilities
Customers no longer have to separate glass bottles and jars from other recyclables at the Recycling and Garbage Facilities in Hansville, Silverdale, and Olalla. Glass bottles and jars will now be collected in the same recycling containers as the other accepted recyclables.
At the Olympic View Transfer Station recycling area, we'll still collect glass separately from other materials. Corrugated cardboard is still collected separately at all drop-off facilities.
We've also replaced the 8-yard recycling containers with 40-yard containers. Customers will no longer need to lift recycling over their heads. Now they can access recycling containers using a small staircase leading to a narrow platform.
There is limited space on the platform between the two containers, so customers should avoid bringing recyclables in large containers that will be difficult to fit into the space.
Customer wait times will be reduced because hauling away full recycling containers will be faster and more efficient than before.
Recycle Right Reminders
Recyclables must be empty, clean, and dry! These recycling reminders apply to both drop-off recycling and home curbside recycling:
- Recycle plastics based on the shape of the container, not the product’s recycling symbol. Only recycle plastic bottles, jugs, jars, and dairy tubs.
- Recycle paper larger than a postcard. No shredded paper.
- Paper bags of recyclables can go right into the recycling container, but do not put recyclables inside plastic bags.
