Symphony’s 76th Season Opens in October

Bremerton Symphony Association is pleased to announce their 76th season, sponsored by Kitsap Bank, with concerts in Bremerton, Port Orchard, Poulsbo, and Kingston. Whether you are a first-time symphony goer, or a regular attendee, Bremerton Symphony’s 2018-19 season offers music to delight your senses and lift your spirit. Individual tickets ranging from $10-$28 and season subscription packages including your choice of five through twelve concerts are now available online, including the opportunity to choose your seats. Tickets are also available in person Tuesday thru Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Symphony office, located upstairs in the United Way Building (645 4th Street, Suite 206, Bremerton), or by calling (360) 373-1722.

Maestro Alan Futterman leads Bremerton Symphony Orchestra in six distinct concerts. The season opens with Classic Masterworks on October 20, 2018 at Bremerton Performing Arts Center (1500 13th St, Bremerton) featuring Bremerton Symphony Orchestra performing music by Beethoven, Mozart, and Brahms. Up next, on November 10, 2018 at Bremerton Performing Arts Center, Bremerton Symphony Orchestra and Chorale perform From the Silver Screen, showcasing film favorites including 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Godfather, Vertigo, the Pink Panther, and more. The Symphony will offer TWO festive, family-friendly programs this season. Holiday Happenings takes place on December 8, 2018 at Bremerton Performing Arts Center, and features Bremerton Symphony Orchestra and Chorale performing music by Resphigi, Shaw, Rimsky-Korsakov, and holiday tunes. Handel’s epic Messiah is back by popular demand, on December 16 at Saint Gabriel Church (1150 Mitchell Ave SE, Port Orchard) sponsored by Bremerton-Kitsap Airporter. Chorale Director LeeAnne Campos leads Bremerton Symphony Chorale in Honor and Gloria on April 6 and 7, 2019 at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church (700 Callahan Drive, Bremerton). Bookending the season, Beethoven’s powerhouse Symphony #9 takes place on May 18 at Grace Point Church (8278 WA-303, Bremerton) and on May 19 in partnership with the Port of Kingston at Kingston High School (26201 Siyaya Ave NE, Kingston).

Maestro Futterman has also programed three special concerts for the upcoming season. Le Jazz Hot features the acclaimed Hanrahan Quartet performing John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme – perfect post-Valentine’s-Day music – and Jazz standards on February 15, 2019 at The Historic Roxy Theatre (270 4th Street, Bremerton). Flamenco! Tango! Fiesta! showcases music by Albeniz, Rinaudo, Sarasate, and an original work by Futterman on March 9, 2019 at the Admiral Theater (515 Pacific Ave, Bremerton). Regional young artists from Bremerton Symphony’s Young Artists Competition will share their winning performances on June 2, 2019 at North Point Church (1779 NE Hostmark St, Poulsbo).

Youth Symphony Music Director Tigran Arakeylan and Youth Jazz Ensemble director Derick Polk offer three opportunities to hear local students perform at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church. These programs will be held on November 17, 2018, March 2, 2019, and May 4, 2019. All seats are $10 with free entry for children sitting on laps. Registration remains open for Bremerton Youth Symphony and Jazz Ensemble’s school-year program, open to local students ages 10 and above with at least one year of music training. Weekly rehearsals are held Sunday evenings in Bremerton. Partial and full tuition scholarships are available for families in financial need. The Symphony offers several special events during the upcoming season, including the annual “Brunch with Bach” gala on February 2, 2019 at Kitsap Convention Center at Bremerton Harborside, featuring performers from Bremerton Symphony Orchestra, Chorale, and Youth Ensembles. Tickets are $35 benefiting the Symphony’s educational programs.

Another highlight of the year is the annual orKIDstra school-day concert, this year held on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Bremerton Performing Arts Center, made possible in part by support from ArtsWA and National Endowment for the Arts. This program features original music and illustrations as well as Mexican Mariachi music performed by Bremerton Symphony Orchestra. All seats are $5 for this educational concert, held at 9:45AM and 11:30PM, with an instrument petting zoo by KING FM, open to groups of students from local and regional public and private schools, as well as homeschool groups.
